SEYCHELLES DEFENCE FORCES SUCCESSFULLY CONDUCTS TWO MARITIME RESCUE OPERATIONS.

The Seychelles Defence Forces have recently carried out two successful maritime rescue operations, reinforcing their role in ensuring maritime safety and security in our waters.

The first incident involved a vessel, “North Point” that broke free from its anchorage in North Island and drifted unmanned at sea. The incident was reported on Wednesday 27th August 2025 at 06.50a.m. Through effective coordination from Seychelles Air Force Maritime Patrol Aircraft and Seychelles Coast Guard Patrol Boat “Boudeuse”, the vessel was located 1.7NM North East of Mahe. A team was deployed to board and take control of the vessel, which was then navigated back to North Island without incident.

The second operation involved a fishing vessel “La belle Ash” which had left Mahe in the morning of 28th August 2025 with one person on board to go fishing. The incident was reported at 06.46pm as the vessel was overdue. The search began immediately that evening, but had to be called off due to inclement weather conditions. The next morning, again through effective coordination from the various SDF assets, the vessel was located around 3 nautical miles from Mahe. The distressed sailor, who had experienced mechanical problems with his boat, was brought down to Mahe and handed over to relevant authorities.
