The Seychelles Defence Forces (SDF) honored the late Corporal Maurice Pool, a founding member of the Seychelles Navy, now the Seychelles Coast Guards, with a memorial service at sea in accordance with his final wishes. His ashes were returned to the ocean; the same waters where he dedicated much of his life in service through maritime surveillance.
The ceremony, attended by members of the SDF and close family members of late Corporal Pool, was conducted aboard SCG Patrol Boat Boudeuse and presided over by Force Chaplain Lt Col Louis Agathine.
He described Corporal Pool as a disciplined, responsible, and approachable soldier who was deeply committed to his duties and to serving his country.
The service concluded with his son scattering his ashes into the sea, along with flowers. The Pool family expressed heartfelt gratitude to the SDF leadership for their support in fulfilling Corporal Pool’s final wish.
The SDF remains committed to assisting its service members, past and present, in their times of need, difficulty, and grief.
